Born in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, Ms. Muirhead's education was truly international. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute, and also attended the University of Hawaii, the School of Visual Arts in New York, L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and the American School of Art in Fontainebleau, France.
Romy was encouraged from an early age to paint by her father. He tried to instill an appreciation for art in her from an early age. Romy's father, an accomplished artist, designed golf courses, towns, authored books and owned art galleries. Over the years, Romy Muirhead's work has been the subject of solo exhibitions in Connecticut, Palm Beach, Florida, Newport Beach, California, Hollywood, California , Los Angeles, Honolulu, and Montrose, California. Her work is owned by collectors in California, Florida, New York, and Hawaii, plus internationally in England, Australia, Germany, and Japan.
The subject matter of her work is predominantly animals and nature. She draws from a variety of media, including watercolors, acrylics, etchings, dye on silk, posters and giclee prints.
My purpose,' says Romy, 'is to do artwork that is uplifting either because of humor or an aesthetic quality. I'm interested in bringing about enjoyment for other people through my work.
